There is no single price for a stairlift. Every installation is different, and the final cost depends on several factors that can only be assessed after a technical visit to your home. In this guide we explain what affects the quote and how to get an accurate estimate for your own case.

Factors that determine the price

1. Type of staircase: straight or curved

This is the factor that affects the price most. A stairlift for a straight staircase uses a standard rail and installation is quicker. A stairlift for a curved staircase, on the other hand, requires a rail made to measure to the exact curves and landings of your staircase, which increases the cost and the manufacturing lead time.

If your staircase has curves, half-landings, changes of gradient or spiral sections, you will need a made-to-measure solution. Every curved rail is unique.

2. Length of the route

The more floors or linear metres the route covers, the higher the quote. Climbing a single flight between two floors is not the same as covering three storeys with half-landings in between. The length of the rail is one of the biggest components of the final cost.

3. Location: indoors or outdoors

Stairlifts for outdoor use require weather-treated materials, sealed electronics and extra protection against damp, rain and extreme temperatures. For those reasons they usually cost more than the equivalent indoor model.

4. Model chosen and configuration

Every model comes with a different level of equipment. Options that can change the quote include:

• Powered or manual swivel seat
• Automatic folding of the seat, footrest and armrests
• Type of control: standard joystick or adapted controls
• Seat width and load capacity
• Upholstery and finishes
• Programmable intermediate stops

5. Characteristics of the staircase
